About the Font Factory™
The Font Factory™ was started by Andy Benedek in 1988. It all began after he bought a Macintosh 128K in 1984 followed by the acquisition of a very early copy of Fontographer in 1986. By tapping into a love of letterforms which extended back to his childhood, he began to draw and create fonts for the sheer pleasure of it. Over the next two years, font creation gradually became a consuming passion until in 1988, he turned professional and formed the Font Factory™. It is likely that he was the first person in the UK to create custom Postscript fonts. Early work was primarily producing Postscript versions of existing typefaces, but this was soon followed by the creation of custom fonts for corporate and brand identities for London-based design consultancies. Some 75 custom fonts have been created for a wide variety of clients.

The Font Factory™ can communicate with its clients by telephone, fax and email. Whatever jobs are undertaken, they are always carried out in close collaboration with the clients with intermediate drawings being submitted at key stages in the development—so there are no surprises when jobs are complete!

Andy Benedek, has lectured, given workshops and written for a variety of magazines on the topics of font creation, graphics and computer software. Such magazines include Eye—the international graphics magazine, MacUser, and xyz. He currently writes a monthly column for Printing World.

A recent venture has been the formation of Fine Fonts with the lettercutter, lettering artist, book-jacket designer, lecturer and author, Michael Harvey. Fine Fonts has been formed to develop and market fonts, initially designed by Michael Harvey, but subsequently designed by others as well.
